This arrangement of I Wanna Be Sedated appeared in a dream to me recently, and wandered around in my brain the whole day after. I did a little hunting online and couldn't find another slowed-down, acoustic version like what I heard in my head.
(Full disclosure: Now that it's out, I've found at least a half dozen versions on the same premise. Just after the nick of time. Yeesh... Fun to record nonetheless.)
Getting into it, I realized the song is a lot more repetitive than I'd remembered. So to help the song build, I started with low vocal harmonies and built them higher as the song progresses. You'll also hear small bits of shaker and kick drum towards the end to thicken the texture.
Then there's the iconic one-note guitar solo. I wanted something that would pay tribute to the original without dragging the song to a halt in the solo. So built and 8th note based melody that uses a drone note on the E. Builds something new for this version while still keeping the spirit of the original.
And yeah, the Ramones would hate this version. They had the coolest version. This is exactly the opposite of that. :)
